Abstract

Academic leadership for schools worldwide is becoming an area of interest for many researchers. Various studies have focused on investigating leadership styles and their impact on the success of educational institutions. The purpose of this study was to explore principals’ leadership styles on academic performance, decision making, delegation, and instructional leadership tasks within their schools. Education level, leadership skills, and personnel characteristics were the major traits examined. This article specifically analyzed strategic planning, performance level, management capabilities, and delegation strategies of school principals. The study was carried out in three private schools that follow American curriculum in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Data was collected primarily through oral narrative inquiry interviews and analyzed using the emic approach. A major finding indicated that administrative tasks, student performance, human resources, and parent inquiries were the most important, time-consuming tasks expected of principals that ensured success of their educational institutions.
