Abstract

This editorial introduces the special issue by arguing for a multi-disciplinary perspective on transformative change toward sustainability. Starting from the Anthropocene as our new geological epoch and collective frame of reference, we set out to describe the existing challenges to accelerating and scaling viable solutions to pressing socio-ecological problems, including the twin emergency of biodiversity and climate breakdown. The combined impact of environmental, social, and humanitarian crises that are observable at a planetary scale stresses the urgent need to include concepts, methodologies, and solutions from across various disciplines—Philosophy, Arts, Design Studies, Sociology, Psychology and Behavioral Studies—all included in this special issue.
