Abstract

In the twenty-first century, learning style has slowly shifted from the teacher-centred learning to student-centred learning. This study introduced one of the student-centred learning strategies, which is the flipped classroom. This study examines the flipped classroom strategy that was used in the learning of Year Nine Factorization in an all-girls high school in Brunei. Two classes of different abilities (higher-ability and average-ability) were used. This study increases the contact time between teacher and students in learning factorization. The effect of flipped classroom on the students’ performance through the analysis of the scores from pre-test and post-tests using paired samples t-test and the students’ perception towards flipped classroom obtained by giving out questionnaires and interviewing students were investigated in this study. The results acquired showed that students’ performance was affected positively and the flipped classroom strategy earned mixed reviews from the students.
