Abstract

The greatest obstacle to improving intercultural effectiveness in architectural education is the lack of understanding of the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required to practice successfully in cross-cultural situations. Referencing a specific international design-build course and drawing from current thinking on internationalized education, this article identifies attributes for interculturally effective designers. The goal is to offer useful definitions, key terms, and strategies to educators who may be interested in rethinking architectural education for a global society.
