Abstract

In this paper we discuss the impact of services on the development of the knowledge society and show how their design principles lead to sustainable development. We start by analysing the existent research of this domain that helps us to identify the essential characteristics of the knowledge society. Then we present our research hypothesis for analysing the aspects related to sustainable development, by identifying the design principles of sustainable development, rather than by attempting to optimise intelligent reactions to perceived impacts of non sustainable development, according to common points of view. We also discuss the interdependence of services and sustainable development of the knowledge society, and show how services impact on the co-creation of the conceptual foundations of a new type of society, the creative society. In order to illustrate how services-based modelling contributes to the process of sustainable development of the creative society, we schematically describe the services-based process of knowledge capitalisation and introduce its conceptual architecture. To conclude, we describe the scope of our future work, as well as the perspectives of this research.
