Abstract

This study identifies a set of journals that report on interior design research and proposes a ranking of those journals determined by a survey of peer reviews. Based on an online survey, journals in which interior designers commonly publish were assessed in terms of prestige, contribution to theory, contribution to practice, and contribution to teaching. It was found that while a diversity of journals were proposed, there was agreement among interior design educators in the ranking of a top tier of journals. Furthermore, it was found that academic status, type of institutional affiliation, and geographic location are all significant to journal rankings. The results of the study offer a guide to both evaluators and those evaluated when judging or selecting research outlets and in the process of tenure and promotion decisions.
