Abstract

The narco motorbike is often identified by Medellineses as a red Yamaha and a weapon. This mode of transport might be considered the “dark horse” of Medellin’s planning. This article studies how the individualist view of capitalism and symbiosis with the machine could end in a political crisis inside a “capitalist paradise.” It compares the evolving narco motorbike culture to contemporary planning in Medellin, and it considers its historical, architectural, biological, technological and anthropological perspectives and the complex relations between popular culture, urbanism, transport, and technology. The analysis is done by using multilinear evolution, which studies the significant alteration of a particular culture so that a cultural law can be identified.
