First Amendment Issues Applied to United States Media
Abstract
How the guarantees of Free Speech and a Free Press have been applied to various media in the United States is a question that has perplexed many journalists including many who were born here and are presumably familiar with the U.S. Constitution. An attempt is made only to identify, explain, and exemplify the major issues, including how government regulation, the Federal Communications Commission, and various media have interpreted those issues. This is a critical review rather than a scholarly interpretation of Communication Law. It is intended to be a useful guide for foreign journalists or those media specialists who may have occasion to navigate the complex world of U.S. media regulation.
