Abstract

The virtual exhibition "Fifteen Seconds of Fame" explores the potential of using the smartphone as a tool for creating and viewing online fine art digital photography, video, and music. This paper analyzes contributions that engage the theoretical uses of leisure-associated technologies and the use of telecommunications networks as an artist medium. Professional artists, musicians, and students were invited to create his or her virtual portfolio site for this non-linear exhibition on an assigned social network. I curated the virtual exhibition, displaying selected works on my server. Visitors were invited to immerse themselves in projected visual imagery produced by a wall of light that explored a variety of themes. This installation complimented conventional models of cloud computing while recognizing the potential of intimacy and the broadcasting of public interactive telematic experience
