Abstract

Electronic resources (e-resources) of higher education institutions serve as reliable references for students, especially when they are out of school. Thus, it is important to investigate the factors that could ensure optimum usage of these expensive e-resources. Toward this goal, this descriptive-survey study was employed. This study utilized a validated questionnaire that determined which of the factors, student and institutional, influenced the use of e-resources of a library in a university in Manila. It was found that knowledge on the use of e-resources had positive impact on frequency of use of e-resources. However, students with computer and Internet access at home had negative influence on the frequency of use of library e-resources. Meanwhile, Internet access at home, training programs on the use of e-resources, and relevant subscriptions had positive influence on time spent using e-resources. Level of knowledge on the library e-resources is the strongest predictor of e-resources usage. It is concluded that the optimum use of e-resources are the results of concerted efforts of students and of the institution. Implications are also offered.
