Abstract

The high school students of Nydia Quintero Turbay, showed poor scores in the competence of mathematical modeling in the concept of linear function. Their ICFES results conducted by the Ministry of National Education, were evidence of their lack of understanding in this subject. Besides that, students not see applicability of the linear function in everyday contexts; therefore, it became a necessary to find a strategy where students could familiarize themselves with the linear function, by using it in their daily life situations. This work aimed to show the impact on the development of competence in modeling the concept of linear function. The teaching strategy based on the use of simulations in students. The investigation showed that the environment used was highly favorable to the development of competence, noting progress in the skills of the students regarding the representation of reality through mathematical structures and interpreting mathematical models in contextualized situations
