Abstract

Performing arts constitute a highly valuable source of development possibilities for both educational and social issues, at multiple levels. This study traces the potential of theater as a socio-educational tool in challenging contexts by explaining the experience of the development of a workshop at Lelikelén socio-educational center in Córdoba, Argentina. The research was carried out using qualitative research based on participatory observation techniques. Backed with empirical evidence, this article presents the potential of art as an educational tool to trigger social transformation and to provide knowledge on how the development of creative and artistic skills can generate significant learning in this youth collective. In addition, education through the arts challenges underlying structures of inequality and stimulates empowering processes and the fair restitution of cultural and social rights.
