Abstract

This article aims to investigate the determinants of profitability of corporations listed in the energy sector of the Stock Exchange of Thailand. Using the data of thirty-seven energy companies ranging from 2010 to 2015, the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) models were formed to capture the relationships between a firm’s profitability (dependent variable) and characteristics, for instance, size, capital structure, financial leverage, liquidity, age, and revenue (independent variables). It was found that: 1) a firm’s size negatively affects profitability; 2) financial leverage positively impacts profitability; 3) financial liquidity positively influences profitability; and 4) firm’s revenue positively affects profitability.
