Abstract

Tomorrow’s ageing population will increasingly need enabling design features that readily translate into small spaces to support the needs of people as they grow older or experience impairments such as dementia. This case study describes a prototype apartment designed and constructed for an older couple (one of whom has dementia), identifies the learnings on creating enabling spaces, and proposes further exploration as the demand for this housing option gathers momentum.
