Abstract

The article highlights the importance of combining theories with practices in South Korean natural disaster training from an international perspective. Qualitative content analysis has been used to test the hypothesis: “If training for natural disaster management is mainly oriented on theories, then it has to equally combine theories with practices to maximize training effectiveness.” In doing so, the article compared idea-based training with real-life–based training through the four types of participants: policy makers, trainers, trainees, and evaluators. The result validates the hypothesis. The prevailing theme is that South Korea and the international community must comprehensively combine and unite idea-based training with real-life–based training and experience to achieve the goal of maximum disaster preparedness and management.
