Abstract

Experiential learning activities are often effective in teaching university students about real-world processes and results. However, for these experiences to be beneficial for everyone involved, they must be designed upon sound theoretical frameworks and appropriate pedagogical techniques. The University of Georgia's Studio Experience is a model that incorporates a theoretical foundation and experiential learning techniques in a systematic manner. This paper describes a course that follows a similar model and outlines the implementation of Camp Rocky, the culminating learning experience for a camp administration course. The purpose of this article is to set forth a model for developing experiential courses, which incorporates community engagement and which may be applied across a variety of curricular areas.
