Abstract

There are numerous challenges to health improvement in northern and remote communities. Progress could be aided by better informed public policy that provides health education and more comprehensive health care to northerners where they live. Advances in technology, including better Internet connectivity to rural and remote areas and experimentation with telehealth applications, are making distributed learning more feasible. A team of international, innovation leaders in health-related telementoring met to build a network of scholarship to parallel and support technological advances in health. This paper outlines how remote presence telementoring can enhance the education of health professionals and the health of populations in rural and remote geographical areas. The ideas presented are the results of a meeting held to disseminate knowledge and inform policy in an advancing field of technology in health education.
