Abstract

Realizing the importance of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in economic growth and improvements in the quality of life, the Government undertook various initiatives during the Seventh Plan (1996 – 2000) to facilitate the greater adoption and diffusion of ICT to improve in every field of social aspects, business and industries. This paper aims to describe the importance of ICT in general in the context of Malaysian National Development Plans. It reviews ICT provisions in the Seventh and Eighth Malaysian Plan and the Third Outline Perspective Plan (OPP3). In addition, the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) and the bridging digital divide program are reviewed. The findings illustrated that the programs implemented are successful to a certain extend.
