Abstract

This paper focuses on the issue of arranged marriage from historical and global contexts. It traces the changing dynamics of arranged marriages across different cultures. It explores factors such as gender, social and economic status, cultural norms and traditions, and technological advancement over time. Through the examination of scholarly works from various disciplines, this research will reflect how the meaning of arranged marriages has evolved over the years. It will explore related issues such as physical appearance, religion, patriarchy, caste and class, astrology, and the role of family elders. A review of literature will reveal if some of the ancient practices are still prevalent in communities in Europe, Asia, and other parts of the globe and what factors have influenced the change or status quo. This study will help understand and respect the needs of communities that still practice arranged marriage and yet work toward making changes that protect the of individuals, especially children and women, who are adversely affected by this tradition.
