Abstract

The article explores the Indian mythologist and writer Amish’s retelling of Sita myth from Ramayana, the primal epic from Hindu canon of scriptures. His interpretation of the text, “Sita: Warrior of Mithila from Ram Chandra Series” neither adopts a conservative view of sanctioning authority in religious readership nor an extreme liberal stand of challenging the very essence of transcendent myth. This middle path taken by the writer presents a new understanding of the Hindu goddess. Deconstruction of Ram-Sita binary is the basis of this new mythic interpretation. The study concludes that it is not necessary that the new conceptualization of myth requires a radical critique of the original myth.
