Abstract

Algeria underwent a rapid and profound political and economic transformation in the last two decades. Politically, the country abandoned its one-party rule and adopted a multiparty system which reshaped political organizing and participation. And economically, Algeria embarked on a series of measures to restructure and privatize the state industrial sector, thereby encouraging the investments of both national and foreign businesses. The aim of this paper is to address the development of multipartism and economic restructuring in Algeria. Authors argue that these processes of reform were in practice problematic and have yet to produce a meaningful political and economic development.
