Abstract

Pronunciation competence is very important for normal English majors as English teachers-to-be. This action research examines the effect of watching, imitating, dubbing, and performing English movies on Chinese normal English majors’ pronunciation competence. Through interviewing thirty participants after one semester’s pronunciation learning, the research found that this pronunciation teaching method can better help participants practice rhythm and intonation, improve their pronunciation accuracy and fluency, and at last improve their pronunciation competence. This action research is significant for enhancing pronunciation teaching and improving normal English majors’ pronunciation competence based on contextualized practice and draws implications for pronunciation teachers, English learners, and pronunciation teaching researchers.
