Abstract

The development of digital technology has led to numerous changes in communication design, introducing new concepts, new areas of action and new procedures. These changes imply expansion for the discipline, giving it more visibility and more power to intervene and, consequently, more responsibility. In today's information society, the designer finds himself in the role of the mediator between all the available information and the public(s); he designs communication systems for the network society and defines connectivity schemes and models of interactivity, establishing links and developing interfaces. In order to act inside the field of the possibilities created by information and communication technologies, the new media designer must focus on the most relevant features of digital communications, recognizing the circumstances in which they arise. The aim of this paper is to present some ideas expressed by Bruno Latour, which may be of interest for the creation of a theoretical-philosophical view on the design of digital communications.
