Abstract

Recognizing the importance of social awareness, diversity education, and self-reflection, this article introduces the development and execution of the multicultural co-facilitation of an art therapy masters-level diversity course. The instructors, assistant professors at Loyola Marymount University, present the course in detail, beginning with the dynamics of multicultural co-instruction, which became the strength of the course. This is followed by an overview of the tools, techniques, theories, and practices that instructors made available to engage students in the holistic approach of cultural humility when applied to art therapy practice. Art directives are discussed to demonstrate directives used within the course. Although many benefits are discussed, the article concludes with the reporting of challenges, recognitions, and conclusions.
