Abstract

This case report discusses a multi-partner project through which faculty, students, community members, and several campus units approached the challenge of creating inclusive space in the museum through oral history performance. Through a semester-long internship, students engaged with the artwork of Jacob Lawrence and the local oral history archive at the University of Florida and devised a collection of theatrical vignettes that were performed in the exhibit by local actors. Community members, students, and faculty engaged in a post-performance discussion around race, the civil rights movement, and access and inclusion. Institutions who wish to engage in similar projects may benefit from our pedagogical structure and ethical considerations.
