Maryam Lesan is a Ph.D. candidate at Victoria University of Wellington. Her research studied the nature of street use in multicultural settings and explored how these can be better designed and managed to meet people’s diverse cultural needs. The research looked at opportunities to bridge across gaps that exist between research, planning, and design in this field. She has engaged multiple research approaches to understand how streets are (and can be) used. Through this work she has refined methods to enhance integration of social and cultural factors in the human-centered design process.
