Objective and potential exploration of each of the main course activities | Exploración objetiva y potencial de cada una de las actividades principales del curso:
Virtual café | Café virtual
This activity aims to collaboration. It harnesses the online intercultural exchange between native speakers. Two groups of native speakers are interacting, drawing from inputs given by the instructor and adding their native speaker expertise to enhance the learning experience of the other group of students respectively.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Multimodal Brochure | Folleto Multimodal:
This product constitutes evidence of what the students are learning. It exploits almost all the design principles and aims to demonstrate the degree to which this process has helped to produce something that is meaningful in the target language.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Peer-to-peer feedback and annotation codes used in reviews of the project (brochure) | Comentarios entre pares y códigos de anotación utilizados en las revisiones del proyecto (folleto):
The reviews and the annotation codes that are provided by students in the project demonstrate if such a type of feedback is helpful in the research situation, as well as the capacity that AI can provide in future designs for the improvement of the learning outcomes.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Translation mapping tool | Herramienta de mapeo de traducción:
This tool and the corresponding student activity demonstrate a case where an AI tool can be used through the translanguaging pedagogical lens. Moreover, this is a case that provides insight into the importance or not of having tools that support translingual activity and also how the digital tools could be designed to help language learning and communication in contexts through the translanguaging lens.
General Process:
The general process for the creation of the brochure is presented below:
Step 1_Weekly brochure part creation: Create a part (160-180 words) of the multimodal brochure based on the topic and instructions of the week. Incorporate the newly created part in any previous version that exists. Each week you can make changes to the whole project as you move forward. By the end of week 4, you will have created the complete final version of the brochure (~500 words).
You are encouraged to use your whole linguistic repertoire and a multimodal approach to create it, which can include different languages, images, videos (your own or from the web), audio, diagrams, etc., so you can better express the meaning that you want to convey.
Step 2_CGMap - Weekly self-annotations of multimodal and translingual activity: Once you submit the weekly part of the brochure for review, you should self-annotate it regarding the multimodal and translingual activity. Create self-annotations about the text portions where you used your native and target language or multimodal elements based on the Self-Annotation Types. Requirement: at least 3 self-annotations for each weekly part.
Step 3_Use the translation feature of CGMap: Once your weekly part is self-annotated, you should review it through the translation feature of CGMap. Highlight the text elements that are in your native language and create translation annotations of them into the target language. The goal of this activity is to focus on better meaning-making in the target language.
Step 4_Peer review: When the deadline for the self-reviews is over, you should start the peer-review process on your peers' weekly works.
This process includes two parts:
Peer reviews will be realized by native speakers of the target language.
Step 5_Weekly Revision: Once you receive the peer-reviews, you should go back to your work in CGScholar and revise the weekly part based on the scaffolded self-review and the feedback you received from your peers. When you are satisfied with your revised version, you will need to create a copy of your work, in order to be able to use it as the starting point for the following week. Make sure to check the resources about how-to instructions.
Final Revision_Week 4: After the three cycles of creation, review, and revisions have finished, you will create the final revised version of your multimodal brochure based on the knowledge you have acquired and the feedback you received. This final version will be submitted for instructor review and publication.
Proceso general:
Below are presented the basic requirements that you need to address in your multimodal brochure.
